Vinyl planks are installed one of two ways: click-lock (floating) or glue-down. Both can look identical when finished, but they suit different situations.
Click-lock (floating)
Planks click together and float over the subfloor. It's faster to install, forgiving on minor imperfections, and easier to lift a board later. Ideal for many residential rooms.
Glue-down
Planks are bonded directly to the subfloor. It's more stable underfoot, handles heavy rolling loads and large commercial areas better, and is a common choice for offices and retail.
How to choose
- Fast residential install: click-lock
- Large or high-traffic commercial floors: glue-down
- Very smooth, sound subfloor required for glue-down
